Some 4,500 troops commanded by Gen. Lord Jeffrey Amherst camp on Boston Common.

September 18, 1758

Amherst and his troops had captured the French fort of Louisburg on Cape Breton island on July 27, 1758, in what came to be called the turning point of the war. After leaving Boston, he leads his troops on a march that leads to the capture of Fort Ticonderoga on July 27, 1759 and Quebec on September 8, 1760.
